A plaque commemorating this designation is mounted in a seating area adjacent to the Leo Rich Theater.Īs you walk through the plazas you will find seating areas, colorful and verdant planting beds, and cool shade. In 2015, the National Park Service recognized the historic, cultural, and artistic importance of Eckbo’s design by listing it in the National Register of Historic Places as the Tucson Community Center Historic District. Shortly after it was completed, the landscape received a major award from the American Society of Landscape Architects in recognition of Eckbo’s exciting use of materials and on his dynamic settings for different uses, different levels and different vistas (ASLA 1978). The goal was to create a gathering place for all Tucsonans. Completed between 19, two plazas and a small park anchor Tucson's Convention Center Arena, the Music Hall, and the Leo Rich Theater. He strives to continually learn, experiment and grow within the profession, whether that involves collaboration with outside professions, construction documentation, field work, or client relations.Īway from work, Cody can be found spending time exploring zoos and botanical gardens, experiencing new cuisine, and enjoying time in nature through hiking, backpacking, and camping with his wife and young son.This iconic Mid-Century Modernist landscape, designed by master landscape architect Garrett Eckbo (1910-2000) at the height of his career, is just minutes away from downtown Tucson’s commercial district. He is inspired by landscape designs that engage and connect people to their natural surroundings and is passionate about working with each of his clients to create meaningful and memorable spaces that are unique to their own specific settings while utilizing regionally appropriate materials that fit texturally and cohesively within the desert southwest. With diverse project experience, from small-scale residential site development through large-scale commercial and multi-family landscape design, Cody brings a high level of technical understanding and enthusiasm for exploring the integration of nature into the built environment, through design, to create sustainable landscapes. His interest in landscape design stems from a lifelong love of the outdoors as well as a deep respect for the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and natural systems of the Southwestern United States. A proud Tucson transplant, Cody joined the team at Horticulture Unlimited in January of 2019 after earning a Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Arizona. ![]()
